The U.S. society consists of a large number of sociopolitical categories (e.g., age, race, disability, parental status, class, education). We use these categories in an effort to understand and simplify a complex world.
Prior to beginning work on this discussion forum,
· Read Chapter 1 in the Diversity, Cultural Humility, and the Helping Professions: Building Bridges Across Difference course textbook to explore the ways that categorization of various populations in the United States may create stereotypes and bias.
