Position Description Analysis

Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to facilitate students' application of the NI scope of practice and standards of practice to real-world settings.

Directions

Analyze the provided three position descriptions for an informatics nurse that are provided at the end of the grading rubric.

Summarize each description including the title of the position, required education and/or certification(s), required skills or competencies, functional areas of practice, and required experience.

Analyze the extent to which and how (e.g., what language is used in the description) these descriptions incorporate elements from the NI scope of practice, functional areas, and standards of practice.

Choose one of the three summarized descriptions to make recommendations for improved incorporation of the elements of the NI scope and standards of practice to meet current employer recruitment strategies and ideally attract a better applicant pool.

Criteria for Content

1. Review the three provided job descriptions (students wishing to review alternative job descriptions should first obtain the approval of their faculty).

Provides an overview of the topic of the paper and how it is organized in the introduction.

Summarize each job description, including the title of the position, required                                                                 

       education, required skills or competencies, and required experience.

Analyze each job description on the extent to which it incorporates elements from the NI scope of practice, functional areas, and standards of practice. The analysis should provide a short narrative that includes a table or graph that compares the key elements of the positions. Citations and references are expected. Tables and graphs should be your original work with no copyright violations.

Recommend three ways one job description can be enhanced to meet current employer recruitment strategies. Recommendations should be substantive and evidence-based with discussion of all three areas: functional areas, NI scope of practice, and NI standards of practice.

Conclude with your insights about the relationship of position or job descriptions in nursing informatics with the three elements (functional areas, NI scope of practice, and NI standards of practice) gained from working on this assignment.

 Criteria for Format and Special Instructions

Required texts may be used as references in addition to evidence-based, scholarly sources no older than three years.

All aspects of the paper must be in current edition, APA format including appropriate attribution of ideas, information, opinions, and content.

The paper (excluding the title page and reference page) should not exceed four pages.
