Scenario: During a discussion with a peer, the peer states that he/she avoids the statistical section of a research article but stating: “Who can understand all those numbers --- I just read the abstract!”

Many individuals, including nurses, have a tendency to avoid statistics by skipping over the statistical results section of a research article. This is unfortunate because the statistical results provide the answer and evidence to the research question that is focused on improving patient care outcomes.

Please respond to each of the following questions:

Do you skip over the statistical results section of a research article? Why or why not?

What statistical information is used to describe the sample/participants in a research study?

How is the statistical analysis different between a research study and a systemic review from the Cochrane Database?

Why isn’t statistical analysis included in qualitative research?

Part Three: Provide the following information for your initial posting:

A description of your ficititous example or a summary of the located example.

Explain which of the ethical principles presented by NIH were or could have been violated and how the ethical principle was not followed.

Explain how current ethical research practices would keep this unethical research from re-occurring.
