Examine three nursing-informatics (IN) functional roles that the IN or Technology specialist demonstrates in clinical practice;

Summarize the link between nursing theory and nursing informatics roles; and

Summarize insights gained from the interview in relationship to the IN or Technology specialists role and practice

Directions

Interview (by telephone, in person or by pre-scheduled webex meeting) a master or doctorally prepared informatics nurse specialist or technology specialist. Summarize the interview, in the attached Interview Template (Links to an external site.), by addressing the following:

Introduction of the interviewee including job title, years of experience along with employment and educational background. Please don't include name of interviewee or organization in this assignment.

Please ask the following questions:

What brought you into the field of informatics and technology?

Why do you believe this specialty is important to healthcare?

What are three key responsibilities in your role as informatics nurse or technology specialist that supports the healthcare interdisciplinary collaboration?

What are the methods for collecting data within your organization?

What are the sources of data that you look at in your organization for quality improvement efforts?

Is there any theoretical models or frameworks you refer to as a resource to support best practice as it pertains to information technology?

Who are key stakeholders, you collaborate with to ensure data is disseminated and addressed?

What are some challenges experienced in your role? How did you address these challenges?

What is one of the most rewarding experiences in your role?

What would be your greatest advice for a new nurse interested in the field of informatics?

Criteria for Content

Introduction provides a detailed overview of the interviewee including general practice setting, background and education of the interviewee without disclosing either the interviewee name or the name of their organization.

Key elements of the interview are summarized on the template with an emphasis on describing the NI or Technology specialists' functional roles in which the interviewee practices and degree to which the interviewee functions as a member of an interdisciplinary/interprofessional team as an MSN level leader and decision-maker, theoretical framework and model utilized in their/the organizations informatics practice.

Reflection includes the student's unique insights about what was learned from completing this assignment. Uses scholarly, evidence-based resources to support content and opinions.

Conclusion includes overview of interview highlights from each question and reflection.

Criteria for Format and Special Instructions

Required texts may be used as supplemental references, however evidence-based, scholarly sources no older than five years should be your primary source. A minimum of one evidence-based, scholarly source must be used for this assignment.

All aspects of the paper must use the most current edition of APA format including appropriate attribution of ideas, information, opinions, and content.

The template and questions are completed in its entirety inclusive of interviewee introduction, all questions answered, reflection with scholarly source, conclusion, and reference(s).

Grammar, spelling, punctuation, and writing style is consistent with formal academic writing.

Purpose

Master's-prepared advance practice nurses will have opportunities to lead change in different practice settings. Part of this includes having an understanding of how important information is collected and documented. Most organizations utilize an Electronic Health Record (EHR) for documenting important patient assessment and practice findings. As with any technological programs there are pros and cons. This assignment will be the development of a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation addressing the pros and cons of utilizing the EHR and how potential barriers are addressed to ensure information is safe.

Criteria for Content

You are to address your current EHR program used at your organization. If your organization uses paper charts, consider an EHR that you would like to further explore and implement at your organization for this assignment. Part of the assignment will include providing an introduction to your EHR, including name and inception of it being used at your organization. Also, provide a historical background of when this program was first initiated at your organization and why and a little about the program itself. The focus of your PPT presentation is to address the positive factors about this program, the concerns with the chosen program, and what can be done to improve the concerns to ensure the use of the EHR is safe. The reflection of greatest learning will address what you have learned about the EHR along with how to improve the use for best patient outcomes and documentation of services provided. The summary will provide an overall review of the key points obtained during this assignment.

Create a PowerPoint presentation to address the following:

Introduction should include a definition of an EHR. Please include the name of the EHR program at your facility and when it was started at your organization. Please support this section with a scholarly source.

Present three key points about the EHR program in use that fosters best outcomes for both client information and organization outcomes and include scholarly support for this section.

Present overall/unit specific concerns of the EHR and other concerns that maybe identified with the use of all types of EHRs. Make sure to include scholarly support for this section.
