INSTRUCTIONS

Museum Artifact Analysis Paper

You will write a one-to-two-page paper contextualizing the object (Identify and describe the cultural region, time period and society that this artifact belongs to).

Focus on the most important and distinctive aspects of the society during that specific period. What was the political, religious, economic, military, and cultural context of that society?  Who did they interact with?  Write in specifics not generalities. If you write people were farmers, what were their key crops. If you write people were religious or what type of religion or religions did, they follow.

Remember, cultural regions and societies can change, disappear, or evolve over time. Focus on what was going on at the time and place the artifacts dates to. For example, if you have an object from Egypt during the late Roman Empire in 400 CE, do not write about the 3rd Dynasty of Egypt in 2600 BCE, which is 3000 thousand years before that time.

Your sources for the paper can be:

· Any information you find at San Antonio Art Museum or on their website. ( San Antonio Museum of Art (samuseum.org))

· Any essays found at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art. The MET has both a  timeline (Links to an external site.)  of Art History and  Essays (Links to an external site.) . about artifacts and their context.

· World History In Context (Links to an external site.)  which is a SAC library Database.

· Any other source must be approved (for this you must show me where did you got the source and I need to confirm if you can use it)

You must cite your sources in the text (in addition to a work cited page) any style you like (MLA). When citing the museum exhibit you may use exhibit’s name as the author, and 2022 as the date. The details of the citing style are less important than you are showing where your information comes from in the body of the paper.  CITING IN THE TEXT IS NOT THE SAME AS A WORK CITED PAGE.  YOU NEED TO DO BOTH!

This is the Picture and information from the Museum that you will have to write the paper about. It is your choice whether you want to write about only the gold (Number 25 on picture) coin or both gold and silver (Number 26 on picture).
