Module #2, Original Discussion Board Research Ethics Interviews
For this Original Discussion Board please interview 2 people in your life to find out how they think about research ethics in the field of psychology. The interviews can be quite short. The interviews can be done in person, by phone, by text, however you prefer. Pick 2 people in your life and ask each of them the following questions. This is an informal research project so feel free to ask follow-up questions or extra questions to get at the information. You may want to take notes so that you can accurately remember, and later write about, what you learn. Be sure not to post/share anything that your interviewees would prefer be kept private.
Ask your interviewees these questions (or similar).
- What are ethics? What does it mean to be ethical?
- What do you think research ethics are? What are research ethics in the field of psychology? (try to get detail)
- Tell me about some ethical concerns, issues, or problems that you think a research psychologists might have to deal with? Have you heard about any?
- Can you think of something unethical that a research psychologist might do?
- (Now you choose one of our "unethical studies" from our study guide and briefly describe the study.) Then ask your interviewee if they see any ethical problems with the study.
- Ask your interviewee, Can you tell me one ethical rule that you think research psychologists should follow?
- Please share your two interviews by posting summaries in our Module #2, Ethics Interviews Original Discussion Board. Be sure to tell us about the "Unethical Study" part of your interview.
- Also please post thoughtful replies to at least two of your classmates. Replies must be at least 150 words to be eligible for full credit. See the Grading Rubric in our Syllabus for more detail. :-)
- Remember you have to interview two people !!!!
