Healthcare Information Management: Past, Present, and Future

Introduction:

Healthcare information systems are currently an integral component in providing healthcare services that ensure care continuum, quality provision of care, and desired patient and financial outcomes. In order to move with the current demands in healthcare information, we must learn from the past, analyze the current healthcare information needs and availability, and make sense on how we can do it better in the future.

Tasks:

• Describe the history of healthcare information systems.
• Identify and analyze at least five driving forces in the emergence and adoption of HIT.
• Identify at least three most common healthcare information system applications that are integral to the operation of any healthcare organization.
• Conduct a Strength Weakness Opportunity and Threats (SWOT) analysis of the current state of HIT.
