1. Discuss and evaluate the stated five aims of the book and contextually within our course. The five aims are:

a. to show how South Texas are resilient in the face of intense difficulties;

c. to allow the people of the border region to tell their own stories;

d. to show what happens on one side of the border impacts the other; and

e. to better understand the sociological perspective (including the social situation and the power of the definition of the situation, social capital, bigotry, cultural bias, structural bias, exploitation, acculturation/assimilation [structural and cultural], racism/racial framing, discrimination, social distance, inequality, stereotypes, immigration, bilingualism, etc.).
