The assignment is to write a personal narrative describing your journey to literacy. This could refer broadly to literacy as in how to read and write in general, or specifically to a type of literacy, such as the kind that allows you to interpret poetry or lyrics, or the technological literacy that enables you to code software or write music. 

In your literacy narrative, consult the readings from the book regarding literacy sponsors and literacy aids, and discuss who and what helped you acquire this literacy. See the readings from Malcolm X, Sherman Alexie, and Amy Tan for examples.
