DQ2 Mind and Body

Dualists believe that the mind and body are interacting but distinct entities. On the other hand, monists deny the separation of mind and body. They argue that the mind and body are different aspects of the same thing. In essence, the mind is what the brain does.

DQ 2: What is the relationship between mind and body?

DQ1 Nature vs. Nurture

The oldest and longest development debate is Nature vs Nurture.  Both present good points.  However, it is difficult to whether a person's development is predisposed in his/her DNA, or a majority of it is influenced by these life experiences and his environment.

DQ1 Sensation and Perception

Our chapter reading tells us that sensation refers to the process of sensing through touch, taste, sound, sight and smell.  The information is sent to our brains where perception comes into play.   Perception is the way we interpret these sensations and therefore, make sense of everything around us.

DQ2 Learning

Learning theories are conceptual frameworks describing how information is absorbed, processed, and retained during learning. Cognitive, emotional, and environmental influences, as well as prior experience, all play a part in how understanding, or a world view, is acquired or changed and knowledge and skills retained.

Behavioral psychologists have focused on the learning of associations through classical conditioning and operant conditioning.  Cognitive psychologists studying learning are interested in the more complex type of learning involved in human memory.

Our Memory is the storage center for our life from birth to old age.  Without our memories, we would not have any recollection of our past life and even the past minutes/seconds. 

DQ 1:  Research and explain the importance of memory, its components, and what a healthy memory is vs. unhealthy.

DQ2 Thinking and Intelligence

Thinking as the process for information to solve problems and make judgments and decisions.

DQ 2:  Research and explain: What is intelligence and what kind of THINKER are you?  Include an explanation of what critical thinking is defined.

DQ1 Motivation

We often see motivation as something that moves a person to act and behave to achieve the desired goal, while emotion is the feelings that emerge from the motive, or from the actions caused by the motive and from the achievement or failure of the desired goal.

DQ:  Research and Explain one of the Motivational Theories.  Include incentives, drive and motives.

DQ2 Emotions, Stress & Health

Let's discuss important topics such as our different emotions, the stress in our lives, and health. These are all interconnected!  One can impact the other.

The term personality refers to the traits and patterns that make up one's individuality.  It refers to the way individuals think, feel, and behave in specific ways.  Researchers believe our personalities are who we are in the short and long term, stable, and not easily changed.  The word personality comes from the Latin word persona.

DQ:  Research and explain what is personality, and what theories inform our understanding of personality?

DQ2 Therapy

Therapy comes with various stereotypes in our society today.  Not everyone understands its value nor its effectiveness.  We, as a society, harshly judge those who seek and participate in therapy.

The 6 major Principles of Social Psychology:

4.  Personal attitudes and dispositions also shape behavior.

5.  Social behavior is biologically rooted

6.  Social psychology’s principles are applicable in everyday life

DQ:  Choose 1 of the Principles above.  Research and explain to your classmates the components & purpose of the Principle you chose.
