Learning from other disciplines
In this week’s Key Concept Overview, you read about the influence of a number of disciplines on marketing and the decisions made by marketing professionals. As you have seen, effective marketing requires more than a knowledge of products and services and market trends. To engage with customers requires companies to go beyond the product or service and to touch on the deeper needs and values of the targeted audience.
To prepare for this Key Concept Exercise:
- Read the required Learning Resources for Week 2.
- Reflect on the products and services that you have consumed.
- Consider if and how your consumption reflects values and needs that go beyond the obvious attributes of a product or service.
- Consider what values and needs you wish to satisfy through your consumption of products and services.
To complete this Key Concept Exercise:
By Day 3, in an approximately 500-word response, address the following issues//questions:
- Choose one of the disciplines outlined in this week’s Key Concept Overview.
- Elaborate on the influence of this discipline on marketing.
- Provide some additional insights that can be used from this discipline to inform marketing, other than those already provided in the Key Concept Overview.
By Day 3, submit your Key Concept Exercise to Turnitin.
When writing your response you should synthesise the theory with real-world experience and use examples of the theories in action in a real organisation about which you have read or one in which you have worked.
Be sure to read over your Key Concept Exercise before submitting it to your Instructor. Make sure the spelling and grammar are correct and the language, citing and referencing you use when providing your opinion are appropriate for academic writing
