In the United States of America there is four methods of judicial selection. First is Partisan elections where the candidates political affiliation are listed in the ballot and voters can vote on who they choose. Second is Nonpartisan elections where the candidates political affiliation is left out in the ballot and voters vote on who they want. Third is Legislative or Gubernatorial selection where judges are selected by the state legislative or if approved by the Governor in some cases must be approved by the legislative body. Las is Assisted appointment, merit selection or even know as the Missouri plan where a nomination commission reviews qualified candidates and creates a list that is submitted to the Governor who appoints a judge from the given list. The judge elected will then need to be confirmed by the people after their initial year of working to see if they want them to remain in court. Texas uses Partisan elections to elect their judges. If we could make changes to how judges are elected in Texas I think the Assisted appointment is the best method. I live in South Texas and judges in my opinion are corrupt because I feel they are bought off. I think our County would benefit from having candidates that are qualified and vetted prior to being appointed a judge. I would also like that if we see that the judge is corrupt with this system we could always vote him off after the year.
