HSA1146 Module 02 Discussion

You have been admitted to your local hospital for chest pain. An EKG was performed on you and now you are waiting for a lab technician to draw blood to test your cardiac enzyme levels. Moments before the technician arrives your nurse comes in with a puzzled look. You ask what's wrong and they mention that another EKG order has appeared for you. The nurse verifies that you have in fact just had one and steps out to contact the Cardiologist. As it turns out, the second EKG ordered by the Cardiologist was for another patient.

In your initial post, discuss the potential outcomes that could have occurred if the nurse hadn't been diligent in reviewing your orders. Describe the impacts this mistake may have had on you, the other patient, and the hospital?

In your response post, do a plan to prevent this mistake from happening in the future. Include in your plan what you think may have gone wrong within the Electronic Health Record. Be sure to comment on your peer's plans and how they might want to revise their plans.
