Assignment Steps

1) Be sure you will be able to find enough (a minimum of 8) academic sources on your topic.

2) You are permitted to change your topic with instructor permission. If you have not received instructor approval on your topic, you will not receive credit for the final paper.

3) Successful papers will clearly include the following: ? An introduction to your paper

o Outline the components of the paper o Briefly describing your topic

? A comprehensive literature review on your topic (the narrower the topic, the easier this will be)

? Think of the literature review as a comprehensive summary on your research topic

? You are creating a “landscape” of the topic which will shape your research question/hypothesis

? A literature review should include a proper introduction, body, and conclusion (Penn State University’s library has a great document outlining these components here)

? A clearly outlined theoretical framework for your research question based on the literature review

? A unique (has not yet been researched) research question rooted in the theoretical framework you describe

? A minimum of two hypotheses based on your research question

? Conclusion to your paper o Recap what you did in this paper o Describe why your topic matters/is worth researching, its potential

impact on the field

4) Your paper must have a minimum of 1500 words and be typed, double-spaced with proper in-text citations or footnotes in the format of your choice (Times New Roman 12 pt. double-spaced font, 1” margins). Students must include a title page (which does not count toward the overall page total) with the title of the paper, student’s name, date, and the name of the course.

5) Your paper must cite at least EIGHT original academic sources which can include scholarly articles, book chapters, etc.

6) It is important to only use academic sources. You may not use periodical sources (i.e. newspapers such as The New York Times or Washington Post). Wikipedia is not an academic source. ? If you are unsure about what constitutes an academic source, please reach out to the instructor.

7) This paper is an individual, open-book, take-home effort. Using other people’s ideas and in-class discussions is okay as long as you give credit to the source.
