Health And Medicine In Society
The World Health Organization defined health as a “state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity” (Leavell and Clark 1965:14). In this definition, the “healthy” end of the continuum represents an ideal state for citizens in a society. That said, despite our superior medical technology and treatment options, studies show that less than 10% of Americans live "healthy" lifestyles and that we are actually far less healthy and die younger than people from other nations.
Many believe that healthcare and access to healthcare have become the most important issue that faces the United States today and for our future. Among many of the topics discussed is that Healthcare is a "RIGHT" that ALL citizens should enjoy.
For this weeks discussion, please AGREE or DISAGREE with the following statement and write why you believe what you believe.
The U.S. Government is obligated to provide ALL citizens with access to healthcare, regardless of socio-economic status / ability to pay.
