This chapter explores Americas relationship to race and ethnicity. To better understand how these concepts are affected by the crime it is necessary to look beyond the criminal justice system. After reading Chapter 3 respond to the following questions or statements:

· Explain the concept of social structure as it relates to race and ethnicity. 

· Discuss how income inequality and wealth distribution affect the social structure of our society. How does this specifically impact racial and ethnic minorities?

· Explain the concept of inherited wealth and how this can perpetuate inequality and disparate treatment for racial and ethnic minorities.

· Describe how social and economic inequality could affect the prevalence of crime. Could this be used to explain the disproportionate number of minorities who end up in the criminal justice system?  

· What can be done to address these inequalities? Propose three specific ways, as a society, to address these issues.
