Instructions

Your writing assignment will be graded on the following categories--A. Content: did you answer all questions using relevant information from the unit's concepts (using proper evidence and examples when needed), B. Essay's Structure: are your sentences coherent and logical, C. Language Mechanics: are your sentences well written and free of errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation, and D. Originality and Sources: are your sentences your own thoughts and if outside sources are used, did you use those properly and include citations. 

1. Read the article from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis Page One Economics Newsletter "Page One essay on Productivity".

2. Upload your individual response of 2-3 paragraphs (about 1 page) on the topics posted below. Your response will clearly involve some amount of opinion, but do your best at thinking through and analyzing the questions fully before writing your answer. Carefully organize your writing in paragraphs (essay-style) before uploading your response, and any information from outside sources must be cited appropriately using MLA style. You should upload these to the CD Assignment folder.  Please be sure you save your assignment as .rtf, .docx, .doc in order to upload.

Unit 6 Essay Topic:

According to the article there are three factors that contribute to productivity:

1. Physical Capital

2. Human Capital

3. Technological Change

Select one (or more) of the three factors and discuss how it might contribute to a productivity slowdown. Then relate this to what our economy has experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of a drastic decrease in production and overall productivity. Finally, what kind of role might the government might play to combat a productivity slowdown.
