Discussion Question #1:

  • The Civil Rights Act of 1964 as interpreted in Lau v Nichols and Executive Order 13166 requires recipients of federal funding to provide language interpreters  populations (LEP).  Law enforcement agencies receiving federal funds also fall under this requirement.  Contact your local law enforcement agency (police or sheriff) and list the languages they are able to translate.  Explain why each language is on that list.
