Our juvenile justice system has been augmented numerous times, specifically the past few years. Many of the changes evolved around the fact that most juvenile offenders should be held accountable and responsible for their actions, whereas previous laws focused on rehabilitation. There are many states which have legislation holding juvenile offenders accountable for their criminal behavior by providing punishment equivalent with their age, the crime committed, and any previous criminal history of the juvenile offender. In what manner do you believe juveniles should be held accountable for their criminal behavior? Explain your answer. What barriers, if any, challenge this form of legislation?
