Stratification is a way or organizing society based on a ranking system that measures money, occupation, education, family background, and life style. It is designed to make society run smoothly and with a minimum of stress and disinte­gra­tion. As we know, it does not achieve this goal. If you could, what kind of system would you design that would reach the goal of a smoothly-running society, yet avoid the gross inequalities that the present ranking system carries?
