What was the justification used by the government to move Native Americans off their land?

The US government argued that Native Americans, particularly the Cherokees, could not adapt or assimilate to their desired culture. The government contended that the Cherokees were unfamiliar foreign people who occupied land the Caucasians hoped to have (LearnLiberty, 2012). The redistribution scheme became the main motivation behind the government's justification to move the Native Americans of their ancestral land (LearnLiberty, 2012). The government wanted to take the land and possession belonging to the Cherokee and redistribute it to those who didn't have them.
