When you are ready, respond to one of the prompts below.
- As a mid-level manager in a good-sized organization (hospital, multi-specialty group practice), you will frequently be responsible simultaneously for implementing new strategies while effectively conducting ongoing operations. How do you decide how to allocate your time, your staff, and your resources between strategic and operational activities?
- Under what conditions would it make sense to cancel or reverse the implementation of a strategy? What would be involved in canceling a strategy? Is it likely that substantial funds have been invested, new people have been hired or current people retrained, new equipment purchased, new facilities constructed, supplier contracts negotiated, and marketing campaigns launched. Does the company simply forget all that effort, or does it try to redirect it in a slightly different strategic direction?
