Question #1: The authors select the party systems of nine countries to analyze in this chapter. Go to the website “Parties and Elections in Europe” (accessible via the Research Sources tab on the Course Home Page) and pick a country that is not among those nine. Pick a particular party, describe it, and provide a short discussion of its general goals and electoral fortunes.

Question #2: Why do you think that the party system in the Netherlands is as difficult as it is? What do the authors think?

Question #3: In this country, the terms “Left” and “Right” are generally associated with the Democratic and Republican parties respectively. What do these terms mean in Europe? Are the main U.S. parties comparable with parties in Europe in terms of their ideologies and policies?
