Since Gideon v. Wainright, has the CJ system appropriately ensured that defendant's have proper counsel?  When in the process should the right to counsel begin?  Should defendants be allowed to waive their right to counsel, especially if this means they will represent themselves at trial?  How should judges handle these pro se defendants either during trial (including motions) or when reviewing plea agreements?
