Grantham University Emotional Intelligence In Work Discussion
DISCUSSION 1:
- A friend came to you last week and told you the following: “I’ve had it with my boss. She’s always so overly critical.I lost my temper and quit today.I told her what a horrible manager she was and left then and there. Now I’m afraid to add that job to my resume and to use her as a reference.”
- Take this brief assessment on Emotional Intelligence: https://memorado.com/emotional_quotient.
- Share your score and explain how this may help or hinder you in a work and personal environment.
- In light of what you learned about emotions in Chapter 5 of Looking Out Looking In, what should your friend have done instead?
DISCUSSION 2:
For this discussion, choose a well-established news source. Choose an article published within the last eight weeks that strikes you as interesting. Read it in its entirety. Also, read through the comments that appear at the end of the story. Ignore obvious trolls (such as ad hominem attacks, name calling, or other attempts to provoke other readers). Identify at least five comments with differing perspectives on the issue(s) discussed. (If you cannot identify at least five different perspectives, select a different article.)
Write down the main point of the original story and the five different perspectives. What did these comments teach you about the issue? Did they change your perspective and, if so, how? Include a link to the article chosen.
DISCUSSION 3:
Rideshare companies such as Uber and Lyft often charge a flat fee, in addition to per mile rates and other fees. Other cab companies may include per minute rates in addition to the per mile and pickup charge.
Using your own experience or some Internet research (ride.guru or taxifarefinder.com are great resources):
- Write an equation that represents the rideshare or cab company's rate for your area. Is this a function? Why or why not?
- Using that equation, how much would it cost to go from your home to your job or other important location?
- Which of the parent equations covered this week does your equation match? What transformations were done to it to get your equation?
