Discussion 1: Action Plan for Change

Initiation is the process leading up to and including the decision to proceed with implementation. It can take many different forms, ranging from a decision by a single authority to a broad-based mandate. (Fullan, 2016, p. 58)

Mayor Keller’s task force is in the beginning stages of the initiation process for change. While nothing has been decided, the task force members have taken the time to analyze data and target issues for change. From your perspective as an education leader on the task force, think about how you interpreted the data to determine areas of improvement for your specialization. How will you now plan to implement meaningful change?

For this Discussion, you will outline an action plan to address areas needing improvement for your specialization in Grand City.

To prepare:

· Read the Fullan (2016) chapters for this module, noting the drivers that contribute to successful change and those elements that undermine it. Think about the educational and community changes you and the task force are envisioning for Grand City and how you might collaborate to implement these changes.

· Read the Reed (2015) and Chenoweth (2015) articles. Think about the insights you could draw from the authors’ experiences with and thoughts on change. How might you apply your insights to plans for change for your specialization in Grand City?

· Review the Grand City data and the target list of areas needing improvement or change you developed from the perspective of your specialization in Module 1. Consider the specific issues you believe are the most significant and the steps you might take to address those issues. How might the data inform your decisions with regards to identifying issues and your plan for educational change if you were representing your specialization on the Grand City task force?

By Day 3 of Week 3

Post an outline of a plan to address the changes needed in the Grand City community with a focus on your specialization. Include the following in your plan:

· Identify 2 or 3 of the most significant issues to address within your specialization. Provide a rationale for your selected issues, explaining how addressing each might make a meaningful impact on educational and community change in Grand City. Be sure to support your rationales with specific reference to the city’s education and community data.

· Based on your specialization, identify 4 or 5 action steps you would initiate to implement a plan for change based on each of the issues you identified.

· Explain how both quantitative (e.g., community data) and qualitative data (e.g., information from stakeholders and community members) will inform your decisions with regard to your action steps for change in your specialization.

For this Discussion, and all scholarly writing in this course and throughout your program, you will be required to use APA style and provide reference citations.
