Week 1 Discussion Forum
According to The Facts About Fact Checking: Crash Course Navigating Digital Information #2, there are three questions to ask when evaluating a source:
1. Who is behind this information? Why are they making these claims? What is their motivation?
2. What is the evidence for their claims? Is it fact or opinion? What evidence is provided? What is the source of this evidence?
3. What do other sources say about the author and their claims? Check multiple sources to see what other information is out there.

Examine an upcoming decision you need to make. This could be something such as deciding where to get an oil change for your car, where to send your kids to school, how to treat a health concern, whether to open that attachment that someone emailed you, which brand of mattress to buy, whether to pursue a new career, or any other small or large decision.
• Describe the decision you will have to make and how you would normally search for information to make your decision.
• Conduct a search on your chosen topic.
• Answer all three questions listed above about one source that you found.
• How is this method of investigation similar to and different from the type of search you would normally conduct?
In addition to your main response, you must also post substantive responses to at least two of your classmates’ posts in this thread. Your response should include elements such as follow-up questions, further exploration of topics, or requests for further clarification or explanation.
