CASE REPORT SUMMARY
On 12/15/2015, I, Detective Marvin Barnes, received a call for service at 371 Orchard Lane, of a male party stating his wife had been shot. Upon my arrival on scene, I observed a female party, identified as Stephanie Soto (now the deceased). The deceased had two gunshot wounds. One to the front and one to the back. I observed Mr. Soto covered in his wife's blood and crying histerically. Mr. Soto stated he was in the backyard and Mrs. Soto was in the house when he heard two gunshots and a vehicle drive off, which I found highly doubtbul. Mr. Soto stated the front door was open when he found Mrs. Soto, but he did not know how it got that way.
I had an officer drive Scott to the station for an interview. I also conducted interviews in the neighborhood. I was unable to retrieve any witness statements that could describe a suspect to the murder. The women in the area shared that Scott was a real "Casanova." His first winter in the area, he sent romantic Valentine's Day cards to the local wives. This really intensified my focus on the husband.
No one could give any real information regarding the shooting. There were no parties located in the search that we could identify as a suspect. One neighbor indicated they had a surveillance camera for persona security and they believed another neighbor had one as well.
Soto is the prime suspect for the murder, due to being the only party identified on scene at the time of the murder, not to mention flirting with the women in the neighborhood. After interviewing Mr. Soto on the murder of his wife, we were unable to retrieve any evidence that he committed the crime. He is one slippery guy, but the guilty always mess up.
The case will be closed out and will be reopened if there is further evidence to pursue the case.
