Neoclassicism and romanticism are two movements in art that overlap in Europe. Please read about each in Chapter 12: The Age of Revolution and discuss the time frame, defining characteristics, and ideology of each. This week, you'll be studying more about powerful nations, such as Britain and France, colonizing other parts of the world. You'll also be reading some hard things about slavery as part of trade and colonization. Let's begin with discussing William Blake's engraving, Negro Hung Alive by the Ribs to a Gallows (page 394 of your textbook). Who was William Blake? What was he doing at the time that he was inspired to create this engraving? How did colonialism, industry, and trade contribute to the slave trade?
