3. Case Study 3: MRP at Wheeled Coach (p. 584 and Pearson Video Library)

Case Study 1 Questions

1. How does the mix of Frito-Lay inventory differ from those of a machine or cabinet shop (a process-focused facility)?
2. Why does inventory flow so quickly through a Frito-Lay plant?
3. Why doesn’t Frito-Lay make all of its 41 products at each of its plants?

Case Study 2 Questions

1. Explain how Wheeled Coach implemented ABC analysis.
2. If you were to take over as inventory control manager at Wheeled Coach, what additional policies and techniques would you initiate to ensure accurate inventory records?
3. How would you go about implementing these suggestions?

Case Study 3 Questions

1. Why is accurate inventory such an important issue at Wheeled Coach?
2. Why does Wheeled Coach have excess inventory, and what kind of plan would you suggest for dealing with it?
3. Be specific in your suggestions for reducing inventory and how to implement them.

Each Case Study paper is to consist of the following components:

1. Title page and two written pages with no more than 500 words.
2. Answers to individual questions (as assigned) Each assignment will have specific questions you need to address. You should create a sub-headed section for each one.
3. References/Appendix (if required) These are not research papers per se, so you may not have the need to cite outside sources. If you do, however, they should be identified on a proper reference page. Similarly, if you are required to do calculations and choose to perform them on a separate page, you should include them in an appendix.
