Analysis Report Guide

In preparation for preparing and submitting the team's Final Report, each week you will individually create your own consultant's notes as you observe various CanGo meetings (video episodes), and save them for your team meetings and team analysis reports.

Requirements | Format | CanGo

Requirements for Writing Team Video Analysis Reports

After viewing the assigned video episodes, your team must prepare an analysis report - based on your observations contrasted against established principles/concepts and your individual experiences. These reports serve as critical examinations of the management practices employed by CanGo. You will report on the strengths and deficiencies of the processes or systems under consideration, with recommendations for improvement.

It is important to recognize that each video episode (there are always 3 per week) provides a snapshot of a broader issue within the company. Therefore, in your analysis, you should consider the wider implications for the company and not focus only on single events or personal ramifications for any individual.

Accurate spelling, grammar and sourcing in your analysis reports are essential and required. It is difficult in the business world to convince someone to take one’s recommendations seriously when there are significant problems with one’s ability to communicate in writing. Use the tools Microsoft Word 2010 offers for grammar and spell checking, and use the APA tutorial and APA examples in Document Sharing for guidance for the accurate citation of the Web pages containing the videos.

You must include significant detail in your reports to allow the client to follow your logic, analysis, and conclusions. Think of yourselves as first an observer and then as an analyst. As an observer, you will report what you have seen happen. As an analyst, you will draw conclusions and make recommendations based on your observations. You will summarize your conclusions in the weekly Analysis Reports, just remember to back them up with observed evidence - facts speak louder than generalizations. As you work with your team, you will deliberate about what happened and what it means. You will then present your findings and recommendations to Liz (CEO) and the CanGo Board of Directors in the Final Presentation. Write these reports clearly and concisely, as if you will need to turn over your notes to someone else who will replace you on short notice, without your help to understand them.

Format of the Team Video Analysis Report

Report length: at least 1,000 words per week, not including references, cover page, etc. Feel free to exceed 1,000 words if your analysis requires it.Reports are due in Weeks 2, 4, and 6

  • The Week 2 Analysis Report covers both Weeks 1 and 2
  • The Week 4 Analysis Report covers both Weeks 3 and 4
  • The Week 6 Analysis Report covers both Weeks 5 and 6

Margins: Left, Right, Top & Bottom – 1 inch
Font: Times New Roman
Line spacing: Double spaced
Font size: 12 pt

Make sure each weekly analysis report follows this structure:

1. Title page
2. 6 issues
3. 6 recommendations
4. Reference page

Use APA citation format for all assignments submitted for DeVry Online undergraduate courses (see the Syllabus for detailed assistance with APA formatting).

The Team Leaders for Weeks 2, 4, and 6 will submit the team's report. No one else on the team should submit a file. Use the following file naming convention for your team's report: The file should be named [Team] - [Team Name] [Week] Analysis Report. Example, Team A's team name is Above Average Consulting, so the file for Week 2 would be named: Team A - Above Average Consulting Week 2 Analysis Report.

The following links to tutorials within www.microsoft.com can help you use Microsoft Word 2010 to its fullest capabilities as you write these reports.

  • Grammar and writing style options
  • Check spelling and grammar
  • Training presentation: Word 2010—Revise documents with Track Changes and Comments
  • Word 2010 Help and How-to Home Page

Examples

The videos you will review here are examples only. They have been provided so you can gain an understanding of the expectations for the Analysis Report. You will see information about an upcoming IPO (Initial Public Offering) for CanGo in these videos. IGNORE THAT INFORMATION, as it does not pertain to this class and should not be a part of your considerations for reports or recommendations.
