Respond to four of the questions below (questions 1 – 9). Your response should be typed and approximately 1 (i.e., no more than 2) double-spaced pages each in length, paginated, proofread and typed in Times New Roman 12 and 1” margins. Give examples and use citations where appropriate. Include a reference entry for each source. Explicitly include information from course readings in your response. 1. What do you need to know to support young children’s beginning literacy development?

3. What are best-practice and evidence-based practices that support students’ beginning literacy development at school? (oral language, reading, handwriting, writing composition, spelling).
4. How best-practice and evidence-based practices may be modified to provide differentiated instruction to address the needs of diverse learners, including ELLs and students with special needs?
5. How do structures (organizational formats) in an effective literacy classroom support the needs of all students?
6. What types of text best support students’ beginning literacy development at school? What text formats and genres are available for literacy instruction in primary grades? How do teachers use text complexity to advance students’ literacy development?
7. How do teachers match texts and strategies to students while considering standards?
8. What elements of effective learning environments support beginning literacy development? To structure and organize the environment to support beginning literacy, what factors must be considered?
9. How do teachers modify aspects of the learning environment and content to support diverse learners? How will you support beginning literacy development for your students?
