Desktop Migration Proposal

You are the system administrator for HACKM, LLC. Your next task involves upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 8.1.

Currently, HACKM, LLC has around 15,000 desktops/laptops that run Windows XP. Your manager also receives many requests for tablet computers, as well.

In addition to the migration to Windows 8.1, HACKM, LLC also wants to utilize Windows 8.1 as efficiently as possible.

Current Desktop/Laptop Configuration for Windows XP:

Use APA style when writing your paper, APA Style . Every part of your paper must meet APA standards—not just the references section. ?

Submit your paper in .docx or .pdf format, or significant points will be deducted. Please do not submit in .odt, .doc or any other format, or significant points will be deducted. I highly encourage you to use Microsoft Word 2007 or greater and to create your paper in .docx format. ?

Make this proposal professional—something that would make me buy these services. ?

The final submission will be 7 to 10 pages worth of text written by the student (not counting title page, images, diagrams, tables or quotations that may be used). It must be doublespaced, have 1-inch margins and use 12-point Times New Roman. A title page is required. Again, use APA style. ?

Include Manpower/scheduling estimates in text and in a chart. In Word, click Chart on the Insert tab. Note: Pictures, graphics, tables, diagrams, etc. are not charts. ?

You must use at least one diagram. Note: A diagram is not a chart, table, etc. Google defines “diagram” as, “a simplified drawing showing the appearance, structure, or workings of something; a schematic representation.”

? You must use at least five references. At least one of the references will be a non-textbook, non-LabSim, non-Wikipedia resource reference. Follow the APA format for citations. ?

You must submit this assignment to both the assignment area within our LEO classroom as well as to the TurnItIn website. Failure to do so will result in significant point deduction. Follow the TurnItIn instructions provided within the class.

You should provide research and justification for the following:

Migration from Windows XP to Windows 8.1 while minimizing the downtime for end users. ? Research and recommend an appropriate tablet that end- users can utilize. ?

Will users link a Microsoft account to Windows 8.1? Why/why not? ? How will you use Group Policy to control access to applications? ?

How will you manage storage? (Storage pools/spaces, storage devices, etc.) ?

What about Offline Files? ?

Networking: Will there be wireless mobility? What IPv4 and IPv6 settings will you implement? ?

Will you share folders on the local network or will you make SkyDrive available? ?

System Protection: How will you handle system protection with backups, system images, etc.? ?

What type of security will be implemented for encryption and hardening the workstation against threats. ?

What about Monitoring? ?

What about Virtualization?
