Step 1:Gather Information Before Writing

Understand the differences between violent crimes and property crimes from the text.  See Table 7.4 in the book (pg. 170) and visit the website below to read about the different elements of each type of crime

Step 2: Write your Assignment

B. Find your city and capture the data for violent and property crimes and compare them to the state and national averages.

C. Then write an essay that does the following:

1. Summarizes the data for violent crimes and property crimes in your community

2. Compares how your community numbers compare against the national and Florida numbers. Is the crime rate higher of lower?

3. Shares your thoughts about the data. Does the data make sense? Does it stack up with your own experiences in your city/community? 

4. Relates the details of a recent crime in your community (violent or property) that you found in the news
