CSC PS369 Reaction Paper 2: Tocqueville Files

Compose and submit here a reaction paper based on the excerpt from de Tocqueville's book, Democracy in America, and the four articles from the American Prospect's "Tocqueville Files" special issue. The readings are listed in the Calendarand found under Resources in this course site. Click here to link to the readings. Be sure to review the attached grading rubric, also found in Resources, and the syllabus description of the assignment quoted below for your convenience:
"You will write a 400 to 700 word (no more, no less), double-spaced reaction paper in response to each of five sets of readings. In doing so, you should demonstrate a careful reading of the assigned selections, offering a thoughtful assessment of each author’s or authors’ perspectives and arguments. In doing so, compare and contrast the main points made by the different authors in respect to the readings’ common theme. Do not provide detailed summaries of the articles. There is not sufficient space to do so. You demonstrate a careful reading by identify the main points of each selection, and illustrate those points with pertinent examples."
Note that this assignment is submitted to the Turn-it-in system. You are strongly encouraged to submit the document early so you may yourself check for any possible plagiarism in the system's "originality report." If you find any, you may make the necessary corrections and resubmit a revised document. Note that Turn-it-in will highlight even your quotes, so do not be concerned about highlighted quotes as long as you have properly cited them. That said, excessive use of quotations is discouraged. Once the submission deadline has passed, the plagiarism policy (see syllabus) will apply to your final (or only) submission.
