Units are on scene of a 10,000 square foot warehouse under construction with no interior compartments and a ceiling of 30 feet. In the center of the structure there is a large pile of debris burning. The molecules within and emanating from the debris fire are at a higher temperature than the surrounding air products of combustion rise up following the centerline of the plume. As the fire grows the products of combustion form gas layers across the ceiling. As the gases move across the ceiling away from the centerline of the plume they begin to recirculate. Describe which principle applies to this scenario? Describe why the molecules from the debris are located higher than surrounding air. Is there any hear transfer? Why, why not? In this scenario is the plume considered laminar or turbulent? Why, why not?
