Charlie, the general manager of a small engine part manufacturerlocated in Decatur, Georgia, tells Tom his logistics manager that he needs to expedite a shipment of product (1 pallet, about 4’X4’X4’ weighing about 1200 pounds) to San Bernardino, California.  It needs to get there in the next 3 days or we’ll incur a penalty from the customer per the terms of our purchasing agreement.  The company does not have its own fleet and we’ll be calling an asset-less based third-party logistics provider (3PL like CH Robinson) for the service.  Tom would like to contribute to the decision on how the product should be shipped with the 3PL order taker.  Describe a possible logistics solution that will likely make the 3-day requirement at the most effective total cost possible. A.  Tell me what type or types of logistics modes (in combination) you would recommend that Tom use from the list we discussed.

B.  Tell me what logistics “lane” would be most conducive to get the best speed and availability of transportation options for the asset-less 3PL to coordinate travel.

C.  Draw a routing diagram of how the freight would travel from Decatur to San Bernardino.
