The purpose of this first assignment is to have a framework of focus that will ensure success with the upcoming course activities. Specifically, reflecting on previous critical thinking experience can be a powerful way to set the stage for successful first course completion!

As you compose this assignment, avoid performing research and using citations. Internet research is not needed because you are reflecting on your own experience, not that of another author. There is no right or wrong answer—have fun!

Choose a Situation

Think back to a personal or professional situation when you used critical thinking strategies to solve a problem and make a decision. Example situations are making a computer purchase decision; deciding which cell phone best meets your needs; choosing a school for your bachelor's degree program; or another situation of your choice.

Required Composition of 400–600 Words

To ensure that your composition meets the 400–600-word requirement, consider ideas and questions on the Critical Thinking Experience template provided in the Resources. Important: You need to use Microsoft Word to open the template and will write your composition directly onto the template. This will result with the Capella standard of a Microsoft Word document to attach in the assignment area.

Instructions

1. Open the Critical Thinking Experience Template provided in the Resources.
2. Follow the template's instructions and compose the requested composition on the template.
3. Review the assignment's scoring guide to ensure that you have met the grading criteria.
4. Save your composition as yourlastname_unitnumber.doc. For example, if your last name is Rodriguez, for Unit 1 you would name your file: Rodriguez_Unit1.doc.
5. Send your composition to Turnitin (linked in the Resources), selecting draft folder; review the report (but ignore template matches), and as needed, make appropriate changes; then submit to TurnItIn, selecting u01a1 folder.
6. Submit your assignment for grading by doing the following:
   
   • Click the linked assignment heading.
   • Attach your file.
   • Click Submit.
   • You will know your submission was successful by looking in the Submitted section of the My Grades area.

After your assignment has been graded, you will see feedback comments in the Graded section of the My Grades area.
