- Do not cut and paste from your past assignments and papers.
- Be sure to fully explain your illustrations. You do not want your reader to interpret the illustrations, you must control the message. Provide an in-depth explanation of any illustrations you embed in your paper.
- This section is interwoven with the Marketing and Management plans.
NOTES:
It is suggested that you use these (free!) templates for your financials: http://www.score.org/resources/business-planning-financial-statements-template-gallery
The spreadsheets and data can be developed in Excel, but they must be embedded into your Word document. If embedding the spreadsheets makes them illegible, please insert snapshot illustrations of the subject sections. Then, add the complete spreadsheet to the appendix of your final paper.
Section 8: Operations Plan
This section contains three separate sub-sections:
- Operations
- Start-up Expenses Report
- Six Steps for Data Driven Decision Making
1. Operations Sub-section:
This section includes operations for the product or service from the beginning to the end of the supply chain (cradle to cradle).
This section should include four or five graphs (usually for suppliers, service, and delivery procedures) that illustrate the process flow chart, SRM and transportation systems of your business.
The operations plan explains how goods and services flow through the organization. Examples may be cited from “best in class” operations and supply chain processes found in very different industries, but the applications must be clear. Remember that there are always supplier considerations with both a product and a service.
Include the following, if applicable:
- Key suppliers and customers
- List of potential suppliers
- Production & service delivery procedures
- Supply Chain process flowchart (how goods & services will flow from the supplier all the way through the organization to the customer).
- Overall Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) to include all ethical considerations
- Supply Chain
- Logistics
- Packaging
- Transportation
- Physical Plant Layout
- Organizational chart for supply chain (if more than three people work in operations)
- DMAIC
- Ethical considerations
- Description of how the supply chain will be developed to create time to market, quality, innovation, or cost
2. Start-up Expenses Report Sub-section
Using the template from Score.org, include all of the expenses (marketing, management, operations) to start the business.
Explain and justify those expenses by researching and citing other similar organizations. If there is nothing similar then find something as close as possible and in the narrative for the justification for the expenses and cite. All expenses need to be cost-justified.
3. Six Steps of Economic Decision Making Sub-section
Apply the 6 Steps of Economic Decision making to your business. All of the six steps must be directly applied to the innovation of your product/service with critical thinking elements.
