Note:The Discussion Board Forum assignment this week is taken from chapter 12, theAmazon Video Case 12. Amazon Video: Delivering The Earth’s Biggest Selection:http://www.viddler.com/embed/89fd8c9b
The retail industry has pioneered mass marketing strategies directly to consumers, and has enjoyed many years of consumer loyalty. Many consumers view sales and marketing through the lens of the traditional retail model, whether purchasing fashionable clothing or home appliances. Today, the Internet is giving traditional retail a run for its money, many times offering the same product at a more favorablenet price to the consumer. Let’s look more closely at non-store retail sales and how it is changing the landscape for suppliers and consumers alike.
• Identify the six non-retail marketing models identified in the text, and describe their advantages and disadvantages. Provide an example of a non-retail store that you are familiar with and have purchased from.
• Read theAmazon Video Case 12 in chapter 12 of the text and watch the corresponding Amazon video (use the URL above to navigate to the video).
Note: Do not use the URL provided in the Video Case 12-4 listed in the text Amazon case page:
• Describe how Amazon’s online marketing strategy is impacting conventional retail stores. What specific advantages do Amazon and other online firms have over brick and mortar department stores? What advantages do local retail stores have over online shopping?
• How are brick and mortar retail stores responding to the online shopping competitors? Provide an example.
• Can an “even playing field” be achieved for both the local department store and an online merchant offering the same products? Explain and support your answer.
• How is Amazon looking beyond retail shopping to providing managed logistics services to other firms?
“Plans fail for the lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed” (Prov.15:22 NIV). Explain what this means to a follower of Christ in their business practices.
Your thread is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Friday of Module/Week 3 and your 2 replies are due by 11:59 PM (ET) on Monday of the same module/week.
