Question 1 of your instructions asked you the following:
Using SPSS, sum the Market Maven items (q10_1 through q10_4) to form a Total Market Maven Score.
For that go to Analyze: Reports: Report Summaries in Columns.
Here you are going to select appropriate variables to process. Put your cursor on a variable to find out which variable it is (you should read the question itself and the question number). Scroll down to view more. Once you found the q10¬_1 question click on it to highlight it in orange. Once it is highlighted click on the top blue arrow to put in the data column variables. Repeat this process for q10_2, q10_3 and q10_4. As a result in the box titled “Data Column Variables” you should have your 4 questions.
Next click on “Insert Total” then “Options”. Under Options tick the “display grand total” box and click on continue.
Next, click on the word “Total” that appear in the “Data Column Variables” box to highlight this word in orange. Next, click on “Summary”. There you want to click on the blue arrow to shift the “data column” to “summary column”. Then as a summary function you should read: Sum of columns. Click continue and OK.
You should have a report that displays the grand total for each question as well as the grand total. The Market Maven score is the grand total of the 4 dimensions which is 6442.00. This is your answer for the 1st question. Now you need to go back to your data view and repeat this process but select different questions to get the total innovativeness score and the total opinion leadership score.
