Organizations often conduct a SWOT Analysis to look at strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats as part of their strategic planning. This is also a very useful tool to use on a personal level.

This week, you perform a SWOT Analysis on yourself in order to determine your own strengths and weaknesses, as well as identify possible opportunities and threats as they relate to your future career.

Perform the following tasks:

• Use your LIRN resources, the Internet, and your text to learn more about SWOT Analysis.

• Use the SWOT Analysis Matrix at the end of this documentas a model and create one of your own in a new Word document.

• Fill out the SWOT Analysis Matrix, listing:oYour strengths – these are internal, positive aspects such as particular skills or knowledge sets, personal characteristics, etc. that will have a positive impact on your career.

oYour weaknesses – areas that need improvement in terms of skills and knowledge, personal characteristics that may negatively impact your future career aspirations, etc. These are typically things you can improve.

oOpportunities – these are positive external factors that you could possibly take advantage of to improve your success. For example, there may be numerous job openings available in your field of interest. There may also be opportunities to improve areas of weakness.

oThreats – these are negative external factors that could have a negative impact on your success. Note that an awareness of these threats can often help you plan ahead and lessen their impact. Sometimes, they can even transform into opportunities.

• In the same document, write a SWOT Analysis of at least 250 wordsbased on your results. Be sure to include:oAn explanation of how your strengths will be an asset to your career.

oA plan for improving areas of weakness.

oAn explanation of opportunities that will help you capitalize on your strengths or improve your weaknesses.

oA discussion of how you might lessen the impact of any threats.

• Submit your SWOT Analysis Matrix and your Analysis.
