After reading the report, address the following questions in your paper:worldbank.org/data/download/site-content/wdi-2016-highlights-featuring-sdgs-booklet.pdf
General Advice:
- Briefly summarize the major goals achieved, projects undertaken, strategies revised, and progress made in the fiscal year 2016 for all six regions.
- Overall, which region, in your opinion made the most progress and why?
- Overall, which region, in your opinion made the least progress and why?
- Briefly discuss whether there has been significant progress made in closing the gender gaps for greater economic opportunity (Pages 20-21 in the report).
- Based on the report, do you think the World Bank and its affiliates are doing enough to improve the lives of the poor in the world. Why or why not? Give specific examples if necessary.
- Lastly, assuming you are a policymaker/economist at the World Bank, based on the report, which area(s) of economic development will you want to improve on and why?
General Advice:
- The questions being addressed in this project are specifically based on the report Regional Analyses.pdf . You are therefore encouraged to focus on the report. You are free to use any other source to support any point or argument you make in your paper as long as you cite the source correctly. That said, to be efficient, I strongly advice on focusing on the report.
- Try as much as possible to make sentences from the report your own. More precisely, rephrase what you read in the report by applying your own words and understanding to it when answering the questions.
- Following the point above, you are free to extract facts and figures directly from the report. However, you have to cite correctly the source of these facts and figures. The best way to do this is cite the report as the source and any other source the report cites. If you are extracting a graph/figure from the report, then make sure to place the the source of the figure right below the figure in your paper. If you are directly lifting a sentence/fact from the report, then this will be an example of how to do that: Example: The International Development Association (IDA) is the world’s largest multilateral source of concessional financing for the poorest countries (The World Bank Annual Report (2016: pp 58 ).
- The page limit is 4 - 6 pages (including graphs and references if necessary)
- Each question above should be a section in your paper. Hence, you should have six (6) sections overall.
- For flexibility purposes, you are free to use any formatting style which may include, spacing (a one and half spacing is desirable), referencing, margin size, and font size (12 pts is desirable).
- Produce a clear title page, with a brief title (e.g. 2016 Annual World Bank Report: A Summary for Economic Development Project). Include on the title page your name. You do NOT have to include your student I.D.
- After completing the project in word, convert it into a PDF file before submission. This helps with grading. Note that, submitting a word file is also acceptable.
