Unit III Article Critique

You are to choose an article from the CSU Online Library database. The article may cover a topic presented in this unit. The article itself must be more than one page in length.

Some suggested topics include:

? environmental case studies,

? environmental toxicology,

? environmental chemistry,

? environmental exposure to pollutants,

? persistent chemicals in the environment,

? environment and toxicology, or

? pollution and health effects.

The assignment must include the following components:

1. a brief introduction to the article,

2. a summary and analysis of the key points of the article,

3. a decision on whether or not the article supports the concepts as presented in the textbook, and

4. a summary of the article’s conclusions and your own opinions.

The assignment must be a minimum of two pages but no more than four pages in length, double-spaced, and in APA style. Ensure you use APA references and in-text citations in your critique.

Unit V: Literature Review

The topic for this unit was the classification of carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). For this assignment, pick a group 1 carcinogen from the IARC. Find at least five peer-reviewed journal articles that support the relationship between the carcinogen and the cancer that it causes. Some suggested topics might be

? benzene and leukemia,

? crystalline silica dust and lung cancer, or

? vinyl chloride and liver cancer.

The Business Source Complete database is a good source of journals for safety-related articles from the CSU Online Library.

The Literature Review must include the following components:

Unit VI: Case Study

Animal use in toxicity testing has long been a controversial issue, however, there can be benefits. Read “The Use of Animals in Research,” which is an article that can be retrieved from

Evaluate the current policies outlined in the Position Statement. Use the instructions to guide you in your analysis. Feel free to use additional information and avenues of information, including the textbook, to critically analyze this policy.

In addition, answer the following questions:

? How do toxicologists determine which exposures may cause adverse health effects?

? How does the information apply to what you are learning in the course?

? What were the objectives of this toxicity testing?

? What were the endpoints of this toxicity testing?

Finally, include weather or not you agree with the Society of Toxicology's position on animal testing.

Your Case Study assignment should be three to four pages in length. Use APA style guidelines in writing this assignment, following APA rules for formatting, quoting, paraphrasing, citing, and referencing.
