Activity 1: Read and review the article, "The Ethical Dimension of Sustainability <http://www.scu.edu/ethics/practicing/focusareas/environmental_ethics/lesson4.html>" and answer the following question: What kind of ethical arguments could best persuade various sectors of society to assume an obligation for the well-being of future generations? Please structure your argument as follows: Identify an ethical dilemma, list the different outcomes or choices that can be made, identify and explain an ethical theory that you are going to use, then make the argument *in favor* of sustainability. Consider the following stakeholders employees, shareholders, future generations. After you have made the argument in the affirmative, reply to a classmate's argument, but*argue against* your classmate's position. Activity 2: Define "moral universalism" and "ethical relativism". Now, consider the following stakeholders and ethical issues, please give me ethical dilemmas that a business would face with each group of stakeholders that reflect either moral universalism or ethical relativism. Please address each stakeholder with one issue (you'll have answers for consumers, employees, and the host country). Here is an example of an answer for this element:* Employees (Wages): Do we pay them wages that allow them to prosper at **the sacrifice of profit (moral universalism) or the wages prevailing in the local market, regardless of the living conditions it supports (ethical relativism).* Remember, you only need to pick *one* issue to address from each of the *three* topic areas. That is, you should have an issue/answer from Consumers, Employees and Host Country, but only one topic in each. This exercise is intended to have you demonstrate to me an understanding of these concepts. - *Consumers* (Product Safety, Fair Price, Proper disclosures and information) - *Employees* (Safety of working conditions, Child labor, Discrimination by sex, race, color or creed) - *Host Country* (Pollution, Natural Resources, Bribery, Compliance with Local Law). You are going to need to think about this one. I'm hoping to see some interesting perspectives. Have fun!
