Below is a very brief article from USA Today, “https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2015/06/30/ballerina-misty-copeland-makes-ballet-history/29522591/.”Assume that you will use this article as context for teaching some vocabulary to an advanced (C-1) class.

  1. Select five vocabulary words.
  2. Detail how you would establish the context of each word for your students.
  3. Develop a Language Focus Stage - use the framework proposed in 9.3 and include all relevant vocabulary elements as described in 9.2
  4. Write concept check questions (CCQs) or describe other forms of concept checks you might use.

Misty Copeland, the ballerina who vaulted the ballet world to become a symbol of diversity in her art form, has been promoted to principal dancer of the American Ballet Theatre, making her the first female African-American dancer to reach that high status in the 75-year history of the storied company.

She was one of a number of dancer announcements ABT made Tuesday, but Copeland's achievement garnered the most attention.

And she was thrilled, as evidenced by her Twitter page. As her feed filled up with tweet bouquets — including from Hillary Clinton — her thank you tweets followed.
