Artistic Representations of the Effects of Intersecting Cultures. 1st Post Due by Day 3. Please note that there is only one discussion question for Week 5. The materials for this week emphasize the intersections between cultures that have become increasingly apparent in our global society. Choose one of the week’s required reading assignments to discuss in relation to cross-cultural interactions. For the work you have chosen, explain (a) where you see the coming together of cultures evident, (b) how that intersection is represented, and (c) what the results of this interaction are. For example, does the work represent the connections between cultures as bringing

conflict, harmony, confusion, excitement, possibility, or something else? Does the meeting of cultures raise issues about tradition or about personal or cultural identity? If conflict arises in the work you have chosen, how does that tension arise, and to what extent is that tension resolved or unresolved? Does the interaction among cultures change or affect them in any ways? If so, how? If not, why not? Remember to address not only plot and factual

events, but also how ideas and events are presented, including the choice and use of language, and the multiple layers of meaning suggested through that language (or other means of representation, such as visuality). Review your answers to Week 1’s discussion boards. The questions posed above require that you expand on those initial thoughts by applying what you learned in Weeks 2 through 4. Thus, this discussion board should be viewed as a culmination of data gathering, analysis, and critical application on the subject matter of the course.
