Art Museum - The COVID-19 precautions

NOTE:
Art Museum
Due to the COVID-19 precautions this assignment has been updated to accommodate travel restrictions and social distancing precautions. You may make a "virtual visit" to these institutions if you have not already had the opportunity to visit. You will also NO longer be required to include an image of yourself with your chosen artwork.
Please contact me here through the Canvas Inbox if you have any questions or further concerns.
Instructions: (100 Points)
· UPDATED: Choose one of the following art institutions to visit in person OR online. Your choices are either the St. Louis Art Museum or Laumeier Sculpture Park. (For other concerns regarding this you are REQUIRED to contact me in advance in order for your assignment to be accepted.)
· Choose an artwork from that institution to identify, observe, describe, interpret, and critique.
· Discuss the work through your newly honed "Art Appreciation" vocabulary and awareness skills.
· Cite the artwork itself in its location.
· Utilize external primary source material.
· Lastly, critique the success of the work based on objective criteria. (Do not simply say that you "like it".) Describe it's successes and failures and substantiate it. (Tell us why.)
· UPDATED: You are ONLY required to have an image of the artwork at this time.
· Originally the requirement was to have an image of yourself with the artwork. If you have an image from your visit to a museum, the following guidelines apply.
· Do not use a picture from Google Images or Wikipedia, and claim it as your own work.
· Do not use your student ID or another image of yourself as a stand-in for yourself in the image.
· Do not fabricate, "photoshop", or otherwise manipulate images of yourself with the artwork.
The paper must be:
· 3 pages in length, before images of the artwork.
· 12 point font with one-inch margins, double-spaced, proofread and spellchecked.
· Include a "Works Cited" page. A minimum of 2 primary sources should be used during research. (Always cite the artwork itself in addition to your required sources.) Use the link to the Purdue Online Writing Lab (Links to an external site.) for citation help. No more than ONE source may be from the internet.
The content of the paper must include:
· Historical cultures associated with the piece of art.
· Historical movements associated with art and artist.
· Materials and Mediums used to create the art.
· Who is the artist? Full disclosure of the artwork and it's identification.
· Your personal critique of the artwork.
· Use specific art vocabulary (line quality, shape, composition, etc.) to describe the subjects and articulate the similarities and differences of the subjects.
· Your photo with your selected piece.
· You will upload a paper (word document) with your digital image to the assignment tool. This can either be 2 files or integrated into your word document. Physical photographs will not be accepted.
What not to do...
· Don't wait! This paper takes planning.
· Textbooks do not qualify as primary sources.
· Online sources that are not vetted, reputable, or scholarly publications are not good research.
· Do not forget to cite the artwork at its institution.
· Do not try to stretch a weak paper with big margins, big fonts, etc...
· Do not forget to run spellcheck / grammar check.
· Do not copy and paste the ideas of others as though they are your own. Always quote and use proper citations.
· Do not wait to ask if you can visit another museum.
