For our discussion, put yourself in the position of consultant to an owner of several small convenience stores. You've been hired to help set up a process for ensuring the owner has valid selection measures for each position in the store. Based on what you have learned in Chapters 2-4, what recommendations would you make to help the owner establish an appropriate HR plan? What method of job analysis would you recommend? How do the benefits differ from those that you might use to attract workers who belong to the baby boom generation (45+ years of age)?

Let's consider the different methods of assessment and how they are used in organizations. Think about a position recently filled in your organization. What methods of assessment did your organization use? Of those methods use, which ones were relied on most heavily? Why?

Various organizations use a wide variety of selection techniques in choosing new employees. How would you feel if you applied for a position with an organization that you really wanted to work for, and found out that they used handwriting analysis and honesty testing as part of the selection process?

Employment-at-will involves the right of either the employer or employee to unilaterally terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any legal reason. Does this policy offer equal protection to both parties? What legal/policy change or changes do you think need to be made, if any? Why/why not?
