Create Your Volunteer Recruiting Plan.
1) Analyze the current human resources situation at Feed the Hungry, identify the need for additional human resources, and create a plan to recruit new volunteers.
Check the Client's web site again. If you need to, contact someone listed in Contact Us on the web site for additional information .
2) Assess the organization in terms of what they do now (if anything is different since the worst time of COVID-19) to recruit volunteers.
3) Using the framework in Chapter 8, Competency-Based Recruitment Model (pg. 212), write in the voice of a consultant advising the Feed the Hungry board of Trustees and propose a Competency-Based Recruitment Plan for them.
4) Suggest a Timeline for implementing the plan and the steps they might need to take to phase out of what they do now to the get to the new recruitment plan.
Include any implications for the paid staff for the implementation, and management of the proposed recruitment plan. Please pay attention to Board succession (they are volunteers too), the seasonal nature of the Ex Pat volunteer population, any cultural differences for the paid staff and how they might interpret these changes.
The Management Plan accompanies the Recruitment Plan. The management plan implements the VRP plan of the previous week by incorporating its strategies and tactics into the larger picture.
1. Develop strategies for managing current staff and volunteers for the “Client” nonprofit organization Feed the Hungry.
2. Make a pitch for the designation of a VRM in the organization. Explain why it is important and what it will contribute to the organization's over all success.
3. Propose a job description. include training, recruiting, performance reviews etc.).
Is there someone in the organization who could take this on as an added assignment to their existing job?
Then address the following:
1. Organizing (provide an organization chart showing where they would fit into the organization's management),
2. Directing (how/who leads [or manages] the VRM, and
3. Controlling (propose an evaluation system) for current staff and volunteers for the “Client” nonprofit organization, Feed the Hungry. Include:
a. Schedule for reviews,
b. Criteria for performance (specific to job),
c. Action plan if improvement/training is needed,
d. Other? If you care to add anything.
Be mindful that those who GIVE their time really do not like the idea that some paid person will be in a position to judge them. There will be resistance. Diplomacy will be needed. Use "possibility" thinking to suggest strategies to address this.
